Arrive Promptly, Leave Time for Settling In: Being punctual is crucial, but don’t rush. Arrive early enough to settle in without feeling overwhelmed by the rush. Our advice is to not be too early or late in any way. Strike that balance!

 

Fuel Up for Success: Bring along snacks or a light meal to keep your energy levels up throughout the day. This ensures you stay focused and productive, even if lunch arrangements aren’t readily available. Usually, you should be able to have a lunch break but depending on the onboarding process and how busy it gets, you must be prepared.

 

Prepare Thoroughly: Research the company and your colleagues beforehand. Utilise online resources like LinkedIn to gain insights into the company culture and familiarise yourself with key team members. Not encouraging to do some “stalking” but let’s call it “research”.

 

Make a Memorable Entrance: Consider bringing a small token of appreciation, like homemade treats, to break the ice and make a positive first impression. This is not a must, but once we had someone bring donuts in the office for their interview and we still talk about that person.

 

Dress Appropriately: When in doubt, opt for attire that aligns with the company’s dress code. Check the company’s website and social media profiles for cues on appropriate attire. We recommend to keep it smart casual if not professional.

 

Be Authentic: Stay true to yourself and avoid putting on a facade. Authenticity fosters genuine connections and sets the stage for meaningful relationships with colleagues.

 

Stay Calm in the Face of Tech Challenges: Technical issues are common, especially on the first day, especially for remote jobs. Approach any challenges with patience and adaptability, and don’t hesitate to seek assistance when needed.

 

Utilise Memory Aids: Take notes and create visual aids, like floor plans, to help remember names, roles, and other important information about your new colleagues.

 

Embrace Curiosity: Ask questions freely and express interest in learning more about the company and your role. Curiosity demonstrates your enthusiasm and willingness to grow within the organisation.

 

Maintain Professionalism at All Times: Avoid engaging in office gossip and focus on building a positive professional reputation from day one.

 

Balanced Socialisation: If invited, consider joining colleagues for after-hours activities to build camaraderie. However, prioritise your comfort and well-being above all else.

 

Believe in Yourself: Remember that you were selected for this role because of your skills and capabilities. Trust in yourself and your ability to succeed in your new position.
